Boards change these sizes between recruitment cycles, so compare your row with the “How to apply” section of your current notification. If the numbers differ, open Size rules in the tool and type the new ones. Exam not in the table? Choose Custom size and enter the pixels and KB from your notification. This site is not affiliated with any board or exam in this table, or with any government body.
How to resize your photo
- Take a photo against a plain white or light wall in daylight, or photograph a printed passport photo.
- In step 1, choose your exam. The tool sets the pixels and the KB range for you.
- Tap Choose photo. If your head is cut off in the preview, zoom out or drag the picture, or switch to Fit inside.
- Tap Download JPG and upload that file on your exam portal.
Banking exams (IBPS and SBI PO)
IBPS and SBI PO ask for the same photo: 200×230 px and 20–50 KB, background: light colour, preferably white. Use a recent colour photo with your face clearly visible and no cap or dark glasses. IBPS calls the pixel size “preferred”; the KB range is what its portal checks. The same application also asks for your signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration.
UPSC
UPSC’s current upload instructions ask for a colour JPG of 20–200 KB on a plain white background, with your face covering about 75% of the photo, both ears visible and eyes open. They give no pixel size, so the tool starts at 350×350 px; change it under Size rules if your notification gives one. The form also takes a live photo when you apply. Keep the downloaded file and the original safe, because you may need the same photo again later.
NEET and JEE (NTA)
The NEET (UG) 2026 and JEE (Main) 2026 information bulletins ask for a JPG/JPEG of 10–200 KB on a white background, with your face (without a mask) covering about 80% of the photo and your ears visible. NEET accepts colour or black and white; JEE Main asks for colour. Neither bulletin gives a pixel size, so the tool starts at 350×450 px, which you can change under Size rules. Neither asks for your name or a date on the photo. The NEET form also takes a live photo when you apply.
SSC and Railways (RRB)
The SSC CHSL 2026 notice and the Railway Recruitment Boards’ notice take your photo live while you fill the form, so there is no photo file to upload. They still want a signature file: make it with the signature resizer.
Why photos get rejected
- Wrong file size. A file even 1 KB over the limit is rejected, however good it looks. This tool always lands inside the range of the exam you chose.
- Stretched face. Squeezing a tall phone photo into a fixed size distorts it. The tool crops instead of stretching.
- Dark or busy background. Curtains, patterned walls and shadows behind you make the photo hard to check.
- Selfies with filters or beauty mode. Use the normal camera mode, or ask someone to take the photo with the rear camera.
Portals disagree on whether 1 KB is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. Files from this tool stay under the maximum and over the minimum by both definitions, so a “50 KB max” limit is never exceeded by a few bytes.
